Champagne Frerejean Frères FJF 2006 Extra Brut Premier Cru, 750mL

The Frerejean Taittinger brothers are the latest generation in a line of cannon-makers, who supplied the French army defending the region against the Prussians, during the Napoleonic Wars. Frerejean Frères take a fresh approach to Champagne, which respects traditional methods, but leaves room for innovation. Rooted in the grand cru village of Avize, Frerejean Frères only uses grand cru and premier cru plots from the Côte des Blancs. 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir from plots over 40-years-old in Premier and Grand Cru vineyards of the Côte des Blancs. Cramant, Avize, Grauves & Chouilly. The ripeness and softness of the Pinot Noir, combined with the freshness and finesse of the Chardonnay, allows for a very low dosage. Aromas of dried and candied fruits, followed by notes of mature fruits and marzipan. “Deep gold. Mmm, delightfully pronounced autolysis on the nose with notes of umami plus brioche. Fine bead is decidedly gentle. Very se-rious wine that’s not austere at all.A particularly satisfying Extra Brut.” - 18/20 – JANCIS ROBINSON (MW), 96/100 - MARKUS DEL MONEGO (MW)
