Konpira Maru Belarus: by Sergei Friulano
Belarus: by Sergei is 100% Friulano grown by the Dalbosco Brothers, Porepunkah, Alpine Valley, Victoria. They are wonderful grapes, made by wonderful people, in a wonderful part of the country. Sadly their vineyard was on the frontline of the smoke apocalypse that has afflicted this vintage for so many growers. They are great people who deserve a lot better. So this wine is made in tribute to them and named after the only person who’s pure gravity matches in any way that of Mick DalBosco; a man named Sergei who we met in Belarus last year. Some people have such a genuine, positive attitude to life that they make you sit back and just admire them. Sergei was a bloody legend and sung Peter Allen to myself and my mate, The Brew, on the way to Minsk airport. He sounded terrible but the moment was lovely. So thanks for that, Sergei. This wine is luscious, fruity and super yum and should be had with Chinese pumpkin cakes and someone nice at a dodgy BYO.
100% Friulano was wild fermented on skins for 16 days in our Whitlands winery then basket-pressed, before resting in 50% stainless steel tank and 50% old french barrique. A bit of wild malo and a bit of oxygen has given the naturally luscious variety a bit of spice. Alc 12.5%, 820 bottles.
Tasting notes: Nose of green mango with a palate of apricot and cardamom.
